Brakes
Deserti Meccanica (Italy)
DESERTI MECCANICA presents a full range of braking products. All parts are compliant with UL standards. In 2007 Deserti Meccanica develops two new series of electromagnetic brakes, TMK and TMS X ( International patent ) that exploit the technology of permanent magnets making them extremely well performing. The company developed a new series of AC brakes, the TCA.
Electromagnetic Brakes - Series TMK
ectromagnetic safety brakes in d.c. , spring loaded and with double braking surface, for general use, whose braking action is exercised in the absence of current.
In the absence of current, the loading springs (2) press the armature (5) on the brake disk (4) integral in rotation to the drive shaft via the hub (8), exerting the braking action; in the presence of current, the armature is attracted to the brake body (1) against the force of the springs, releasing the braking disc and allowing the shaft to rotate.
The brake is hermetically sealed on the outside diameter and has a value of airgap predetermined and controlled that doesn’t need any adjustment.
The brake body is entirely of steel with phosphate treatment.
The precise mechanics, together with the careful selection of a high-performance friction material obtained by moulding directly on the disc and not glued (thus avoiding cases of failure and breakage), make the brake extremely quiet and efficient even under severe conditions of operation.
Maintenance
No maintenance is required up to the limit of wear of the disc.
The brake coil is completely encapsulated in resin, therefore exempted from humidity or vibration due to the electro dynamical efforts in the copper wires. The enamelled copper wire is in class F, overheating of the brake are contained in the thermal class B, all components used are UL recognized or listed, so completing the high technological content of this brake.
LS versions the brake equipped (LS versions), with hand release lever (entirely in steel, obtained by laser cut) and / or braking ring steel (even made of stainless steel upon request for harsh environments).
The braking torque is fixed, obtained by six springs (TMK63 – TMK71) or eight springs (TMK80 ÷ 200). GR versions is present a braking torque adjustment ring that (10), acting on the compression of the central springs, allows adjustment of the torque from a minimum value that never drops below 40%, to the maximum of 100%.

Electromagnetic Brakes - TMS/TMS-X Series
Electromagnetic safety brake in d.c., spring loaded, with reduced dimensions and moderate braking torque, whose braking action is exercised in the absence of current.
The brake is characterized by a disc-braking fan consisting of an aluminium fan (5) co-molded on a cast-iron disc, providing a flywheel effect and making the brake suitable for progressive acceleration and braking. TMS-X version is equipped with permanent magnets (6) inserted into the brake casing (international patent), which magnetic attraction force adds to the electromagnet force, making the brake extremely high performing in terms of lower power consumption and low noise.
Uses
The brake finds its field of application where a reduced space or a moderate braking torque are required for safety stops or parking (such as woodworking or cutting in general) and to intervene at the end of the deceleration ramp in operation with inverter.The disc-braking fan provides a flywheel effect which increases the already excellent progressive acceleration and braking due to the dimensioning of the electromagnetic d.c. circuit and in the presence of magnets which, together with a careful selection of high-performance brake friction disc also under severe conditions of operation, making it ideal for light translations with typically long braking with high braking energy.
Rectifier Modules - RDM Series
The rectifier modules of the RDM series are suitable for supplying from alternating voltage, electromagnetic brakes with excitation coils in direct current.
They are characterized by: input for fast shutdown, wide supply range, wide operating temperature range, surge protection in both input and output by varistors.
They are equipped with filters to attenuate the electromagnetic interference according to EN61000-6-2 and EN61000-6-4.
They are also characterized by small size, which allows installation even in the terminal box of motors, all the connections are with spring-loaded terminals, that ensure easy and safe wiring.
The rectifiers are identified according to the specific function in the following models:
- RDM1 half-wave bridge rectifier;
- RDM2 full-wave bridge rectifier;
- RDM3 hal-wave bridge rectifier with function of speedup that allows to reduce the brake release time by providing an excess of voltage for a short period to the brake, at the time of insertion.
